Many of us are familiar with the term SERIAL KILLERS, according to law it is defined as a person who kills more than 3 people, with the murders taking place over more than a month and including a significant period of time between them. These people aren't born a serial killer they are made one approximately 94% of these serial killers suffer from some or the other psychological disorder. According to survey almost all these people suffer from some kind of trauma in their childhood that had made them perform such horrible crimes, they usually perform brilliantly in their work space and have higher IQ than an average person. So why does a person with such a perfect life turn into criminals or end up in most the wanted lists? these people seek vengeance for something that has happened to them in their past, they might not kill the person that cased such harm but hurt those who resemble them.

CHILDHOOD EXPERIENCE
Children make meaning out of the events they witness and the things that happen to them, and they create an internal map of how the world is. This meaning-making helps them cope. But if children don't create a new internal map as they grow up, their old way of interpreting the world can damage their ability to function as adults.
FALSE SELF
When we are small we want our parents to love us and have their undivided attention. When they don't do this , we try to change ourselves' to become what we think will make them love us more. This result in the child burying all it's desires and wants, create a false self and when that child becomes an adult he/she is in constant dilemma and blame his/her parents to cause such a confusion in their life.
ABUSE
When a child is used either sexually, physically or mentally it affects their mind more than anyone can imagine. Out of 50 serial killers about 45 of them are abused at an early age. Childhood abuse heightens the risk of criminal behavior in the adulthood by encouraging antisocial behavior in the childhood. In his book Serial Killers, Joel Norris describes the cycles of violence as generational: “Parents who abuse their children, physically as well as psychologically, instill in them an almost instinctive reliance upon violence as a first resort to any challenge.” In another study, serial killers were analyzed to understand the variables of childhood mistreatment and sexual aggression toward victims. The researchers found that serial killers treated badly during childhood tended to sexually assault their victims before murdering them. On the other hand, serial killers who did not experience childhood abuse did not display sexually violent behavior.

OTHER FACTORS
ACCIDENTS
Sometimes a person doesn't have a reason to kill people due to some vengeance they hold , it's because of other reasons like accidents. Now i know you must be thinking how on accident can a person kill more than 3 people over period of months, then answer is no they can't. Here accidents mean that the person get's into an accident and damages a certain part of their brain that leads him/her to be a serial killer. A certain part of our frontal lobe is responsible for our sexual drives, desires etc, if that part get's damaged due to some accident it heightens the sexual needs and increase in rape fantasies. On an average about 43% of the victims of these killers are sexually assaulted.
HUNTERS AND GATHERERS THEORY
a controversial field that contends that human brains were hardwired by the way our ancestors lived in the prehistoric era, and still show signs of those deeply ingrained behaviors. Male serial killers, according to the researchers’ theory, are “hunters,” who follow their prey as they did in nomadic communities. Female serial killers, meanwhile, are “gatherers,” fitting in with their role in these societies, according to the article published in the journal Evolutionary Behavioral Sciences.

Now, we know what a serial killer is and what all factors result in making of a serial killer, the question now is could you be the one? each one of us has had some or the other problems that we go through some are major some aren't then how can a person use one of such reason as an excuse to take so many lives? the answer is simple they don't realize that they are dealing with some kind of internal issue and are constantly in denial. We should realize that due to some unsolved internal issue of a particular person, so many precious lives were taken, taking care of our mental health is as important as taking care of our body. Only if these people could care more for them and had taken care of their mental health maybe lot of their victims would be alive. Ted Bundy america's most famous serial killer responsible for over 30 murders was a law student with an excellent IQ and a decent lifestyle , was dragged in this vicious circle of violence due to his childhood experiences. Many others like Ed Gein,John Wayne Gacy were all victims of childhood abuse.
COULD YOU BE A SERIAL KILLER? maybe, but that is in your hands you cannot control the situations you face but you can control their outcomes. Mental Health is a very important thing that everyone should take help for, it is not embarrassing to go to a psychologist for help than it is to go to jail for killing hundreds.
